The small details in the big picture

The wonder of travelling is not just in the snapshots of famous landmarks; it is looking, not just seeing, the textures and patterns that make up our shared world.

An avid photographer who travels off the beaten path, Zongxiao wanted to distill his favourite journeys into a deeply spiritual piece. Inspired by the Chinese character for mountain (山), he envisioned three vertical rectangular frames that formed the character as a triptych. Rather than photorealistic scenery, he wanted to focus on abstract textures and sensory details.

Each frame would contain a travel story:

The Left Frame (Nepal): A play of negative space and turquoise rock textures, revealing the snow-capped peak of Mount Manaslu which he kept in sight during his weeks spent trekking in its shadow.

The Center Frame (The Canopy): An intricate study of "crown shyness"—the rare, poetic phenomenon where trees grow without touching, carving light channels through the forest.

The Right Frames (Scotland & Turkey): A vintage topographic map detailing the rugged contours of a trail he hiked through the Scottish Highlands, grounding into fluid water textures captured off the coast of Turkey at its base.

By having this tattoo on his chest, he keeps the spirit of adventure and observing the overlooked close to his heart, wearing the quiet order of the natural world wherever he explores next.
