Sometimes, a film doesn't just entertain us, it resonates and awakens something inside of us. For Charmaine, it was her favourite film: Céline Sciamma’s Portrait of a Lady on Fire.
She shared that during a season of her life when she felt profoundly lost, watching this film broke through the silence. The film’s themes of longing and enduring love moved her so deeply that she decided that her first tattoo would be a tribute to her yearly watch.
Originally in a landscape format, we compressed the frame and expanded the sky instead so that the tattoo had more breathing space (to give the feeling of hope and possibilities) for this emotional scene at the beach.
By immortalising the exact moment that she felt her heart soar, she transformed a cinematic frame into her own personal painting as a permanent reminder that hope, and deeper emotions are always waiting within her.
