A Favor Bestowed Upon Oneself

In medieval chivalry, a lady would bestow a scarf or ribbon, her "favour,” upon a knight as a sacred token of affection, protection, and victory. The knights would tie these personal tokens to their lancets, helmets or arms before combat.

When Dawn came in seeking to cover an old rose tattoo on her wrist, she didn't just want to hide a past choice under heavy, dark ink. Instead, she stepped into the role of her own champion. She envisioned a design inspired by the Lady’s Favor, choosing to bestow that ancient token of devotion and protection onto herself.

While a traditional handkerchief would have felt bulky and clunky on the wrist, she collaborated with us to reimagine the concept through ethereal light and shadow. We designed a transparent silk scarf that wraps effortlessly around her wrist, artfully knotting directly over the site of the former tattoo.

By utilising sheer, layered folds and subtle tonal gradients rather than dense black shading all around, we covered the old rose underneath without sacrificing softness or movement.

Through her vision to rewrite her past with elegance rather than force, she claimed victory by adorning her wrist with a lifelong favor of self-love, strength, and moving forward on her own terms.
