The story

The cost of co-existence

As we willingly delve deeper into this new dawn of technology with the advent of Artificial Intelligence, where does human identity end and the machine begin? Or is it the other way around?

Ghosts in Our Shells explores these increasingly blurry lines and looks at how nature and machinery now collide and coexist. There is evidence of organic forms but look closer and you’ll find traces of how the machines are creeping in. Insects are reanimated with copper screws and repurposed parts, flowers have petals encased with metal and wires connect the integration all around. With imagery and lines inspired by 90’s Japanese anime and tattooed directly onto one of Nike’s iconic sneakers, the illustration works around its contours and lines, ending with a machine hand caressing the swoosh.

The work poses a haunting question: If nature and technology can truly merge, what is the cost of our adaptation? What part of our soul, our ghost, do we sacrifice along the way?
