The studio was started by Bernice Chua, a Singaporean fashion designer, illustrator and tattoo artist.
Always drawing since young, she has refined her skills and style into one classified by the dynamism of lines. Her works are executed with clean strokes that vary in weight and pressure, forming expressive tension that flows within the artwork.
She graduated top of her class from Lasalle College of the Arts with a BA Honours (First Class) in Fashion Design. After working for two years as an assistant menswear designer in DKNY Jeans after graduation, she moved to Tokyo and completed a Masters of Arts (Major in Clothing Science Studies) at Bunka Gakuen University with a full Monbukagakusho (MEXT) MA scholarship.
It was in Tokyo where she returned to her roots in search of new ways to approach and rethink her practice as an illustrator. She picked up tattooing upon returning to Singapore and now uses it as another platform to expand her illustration narrative. With tattooing, she brings in her design expertise in terms of customising one-off pieces for her clients as well as taking into consideration aspects like strategic design placement on the body. In her personal practice, she hopes to combine design and illustration with other fields to explore the possibilities of communication.
She has also been an adjunct lecturer at Lasalle College of the Arts, teaching fashion design and fashion illustration to the younger generation of future designers, for four years.
